To all the drama queens tired of chasing frat boy dreams, listen up To all the gym jocks doing curls who can’t lift the weight of the world, listen up It doesn’t matter how hot you look if your heart is running cold It doesn’t matter who you hook up with if you end up all alone Don’t buy the lie Truth has so much more to say Don’t buy the lie Your soul is way too much to pay Don’t buy the lie I’m talking ‘bout you And I’m talking ‘bout me Is this who you wanna be? Is this who you wanna be? Don’t buy the lie To the corporate CEO holding tight to all your dough, listen up To the uptown lawyers who don’t hear the inner city blues, listen up It doesn’t matter how much you spend if your talk is still cheap It doesn’t matter where you bought that suit if you’re guilty underneath Don’t buy the lie Truth has so much more to say Don’t buy the lie Your soul is way too much to pay Don’t buy the lie I’m talking ‘bout you And I’m talking ‘bout me Is this who you wanna be? Is this who you wanna be? Don’t buy the lie Who are you running from? What are you trying to prove? Do you wanna wind up like the people who hurt you? Yeah, you’ve got so much to lose Don’t buy the lie Don’t buy the lie Don’t buy the lie Truth has so much more to say Don’t buy the lie Your soul is way too much to pay Don’t buy the lie I’m talking ‘bout you And I’m talking ‘bout me Is this who you wanna be? Is this who you wanna be? Yeah, is this who you wanna be? Is this who you wanna be? Don’t buy the lie

Thankful 03:20
Well I’m three good friends away from no one to call And I’m two feet from the edge with a long way to fall Yeah, I’m one bad break away from losing it all But I can’t complain I’ve got to be thankful For my life and the people I love I’ve got to be thankful Oh, cause what I have is enough It’s been six long years since I left home And I keep on learning there’s so much I don’t know Yeah, I’ve come so far but still got so far to go But I can’t complain I’ve got to be thankful For my life and the people I love I’ve got to be thankful Oh, cause what I have is enough Oh, I may not ever build up fortune or fame In a year some people might forget my name But I’ve got friends and family who will love me just the same So I can’t complain I’ve got to be thankful For my life and the people I love I’ve got to be thankful Oh, cause what I have is enough I said I’ve got to be thankful For my life and the people I love I’ve got to be thankful Oh, cause what I have is enough Oh, cause what I have is enough

Slow Down 03:13
Foot on the gas, moving too fast To read the exit signs Not even sure what I’m looking for I get no peace of mind Watching each year in the rear view mirror Fading far behind Don’t know what’s ahead and I need some direction I’m looking for a sign Slow down Slow down Your heart can’t speak unless you let it And your soul can’t breathe if you’re forgetting To slow down Listening loud, but I don’t hear a sound I wonder if you’re there The buzz of the crowd keeps drowning you out And I keep running scared Legs feeling numb, no breath in my lungs It’s more than I can bear Is this all there is? Just a race I can’t win? Or is there hope somewhere? Slow down Slow down Your heart can’t speak unless you let it And your soul can’t breathe if you’re forgetting To slow down Yeah, I’ve been picking up my velocity But left behind my philosophy And lost touch with who I am It’s time to hit the brakes again Slow down Slow down Your heart can’t speak unless you let it And your soul can’t breathe if you’re forgetting To slow down Slow down Slow down

Shut in your glass house alone With the fear that you’ll throw the first stone Don’t wanna cause no one no pain But the walls are cracking anyway It’s okay for you to feel afraid But don’t let it make you run away Cause every reason that you’re scared to try Is every reason I’ll be by your side You don’t have to hide This is love in real life Still caught up in your past mistakes But turn ‘em upside down, they look like grace Can’t trap your heart in your head Set it free so it can learn to beat again Oh, and it’s okay for you to feel afraid But don’t let it make you run away Cause every reason that you’re scared to try Is every reason I’ll be by your side Oh, you don’t have to hide This is love in real life I don’t expect this to be perfect You should know that much by now But you are more than worth it So be brave, we’ll work it out It’s okay for you to feel afraid But don’t let it make you run away Cause every reason that you’re scared to try Is every reason I’ll be by your side Oh, you don’t have to hide This is love in real life

Choose 03:48
I wanna grow old with you, but I want our love to stay young To hold you every winter cold, and every summer sun I wanna stand on the edge with you, and then fall deeper in love I wanna share our broken hearts without us breaking up Do you think we can do it? Do we have what it takes to get through it? Then you smile, and I know exactly what is on your mind “Will you choose me, baby? Choose me every day?” Then I smile, cause I know you’ll be the one as long as I Decide to choose you, baby And you choose me too I wanna do life with you, but never lose the spark I wanna travel the world with you, but keep my home in your heart I wanna love you more than I’ve loved anybody before But I don’t wanna lose track of myself by being yours Do you think we can do it? If it’s right then how do we prove it? Then you smile, and I know exactly what is on your mind “Will you choose me, baby? Choose me every day?” Then I smile, cause I know you’ll be the one as long as I Decide to choose you, baby And you choose me too We still have our flaws Our doubts, and all our scars But we just might make it through It’s gonna take some time It might take our whole lives But it starts when we both choose Then you smile, and I know exactly what is on your mind “Will you choose me, baby? Choose me every day?” Then I smile, cause I know you’ll be the one as long as I Decide to choose you, baby And you choose me too Will you choose me, baby? Choose me every day? Choose me too And you choose me too

I do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt Then I doubt that benefit goes for me Yeah, it feels like “amazing grace, how sweet the sound That saved everybody else but me” I just wanna do right by everyone But I’m scared because of all the wrong I’ve done But living life in fear Ain’t living life at all And you can’t learn to stand If you don’t ever fall Yeah, all the joy and pain Oh, everything belongs Yeah, I’m learning that The right path starts right where you are Well I guess I forget nobody’s perfect in this life And change within is slow and hard to see Yeah, the man that I am didn’t happen overnight And neither will the man I wanna be I’ve learned more when I’m wrong than when I’m right And through it all, I’m getting better all the time Cause living life in fear Ain’t living life at all And you can’t learn to stand If you don’t ever fall Yeah, all the joy and pain Oh, everything belongs Yeah, I’m learning that The right path starts right where you are Sometimes you’ve got to touch the fire To find out that it’s hot Sometimes you’ve got to lose it all To find out what you’ve got Cause living life in fear Ain’t living life at all And you can’t learn to stand If you don’t ever fall Oh, all the joy and pain I promise you, everything belongs Yeah, I’m learning that The right path starts right where you are Yeah, I’m learning that The right path starts right where you are Yeah, I’m learning that The right path starts right where you are

Home Stretch 02:22

about

Some people have a particular place where they often write songs; a coffee shop, the beach, a park bench, a studio. I, however, do most of my writing somewhere much less traditionally artsy: my car.

Notes From The Road is a collection of songs written while driving that explore themes like:

-The enough-ness of the here and now
-Finding oneself in the midst of busyness and anxiety
-Critiques of power and ego
-Trying to make love last in the real world
-Self-forgiveness

I hope these songs will become your companions as you journey through your own life.
